Canadian Bank Note Company, Limited

Canadian Bank Note Company, Limited (CBN) was founded in 1897 to print banknotes and other high security printed products. We are privileged to have supplied currency continuously to the Bank of Canada since the latter’s inception in 1935 and to have designed the complete new range of banknotes recently introduced into circulation. Over the years, we have expanded our banknote market base worldwide, first to the Americas, then to Africa, Eastern Europe, and Asia.

We have supplied payment systems related security documents to twenty-seven countries over the last five years. In addition, we are currently the sole supplier of passports and related documents to the Canadian Passport Office and of visas and immigration documents to Immigration Canada. We are also a major supplier of postage products to Canada Post.

CBN is an independent, private high security printing company. It is not owned or controlled in anyway by any other organization either governmental or commercial. While we have the skills and experience to print on both paper and polymer substrates and have done so in the recent past for a number of overseas issuing authorities, we do not manufacture banknote substrates of any kind.

Consequently, we derive no financial or other benefits from the manufacturers of substrates or machinery (either through ownership, joint ventures or purchasing agreements) and therefore have no reason to promote one product or its supplier in favour of another. Governments and central banks can therefore look to CBN with confidence for impartial advice in relation to any matters affecting their currency and other security documents of value.

While our operations are worldwide, our goal is to serve a limited customer base to which we can provide a consistently high level of personal and individual service. Increasingly, the role of the responsible supplier is to inform, advise, respond and serve by understanding each issuing authorities’ particular requirements. We believe that our structure, experience and capabilities particularly suit us to this role.
